Laser hair removal has become very effective in the past ten years. Often the preferred method of hair removal now, it’s safe, effective, and more permanent than any other method such as waxing, plucking, shaving, and electrolysis. Also, prices are pretty reasonable in most communities. The easiest person to treat for 808nm diode laser hair removal equipment has darker hair on lighter skin. But there are now lasers (the 808nm diode) that do a good job with dark hair on dark skin.
There may be mild discomfort during the treatment, but most patients are susceptible to laser hair removal.
In order to feel uncomfortable during the treatment, some laser centers will provide you with a partial numbing cream that you can use before treatment. If you use this type of cream on your own, never use numb cream under saran and don’t apply it to areas larger than your hands.
Some laser centers will use a chiller (Zimmer cooler) during the treatment to make the experience more comfortable. Treatment may take from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the size of the treatment area.
How many treatments do I need?
After three to seven treatments, most women and men reported that their expectations had been met and hair growth patterns were much less. In some areas, besides the reduction in the number of hairs, the hair becomes very fine and light in color.
No laser clinic should claim that all hair will be permanently eradicated. Most patients need to be patched 1-4 times a year to keep improving.
If you have any irregular medical history, polycystic ovary disease, grey or white hair, or a family history of excessive hair, it is expected that you will need more treatment.
About 5% of patients are resistant to any type of diode laser hair removal equipment. It is very important to have a realistic expectation of the individual results of hair removal. The hair removal system is not “permanent” anywhere.
